Clemson University: Project Director for the Educational Interpreter Center

Clemson University’s Languages Department is looking for a Project Director to fulfill the following duties:

  • Manages the ASL-English Educational Interpreter national assessments and issues the education Interpreter Performance Assessment examination.
  • Organizes professional development opportunities for educational interpreters.
  • Provides technical assistance related to educational interpreting for the SC school districts.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


50% – Essential – Diagnoses educational interpreter’s areas of strength and areas needing development based on field observations of educational interpreters. Provides mentoring services and modeling professional practices for statewide educational interpreters based on the diagnostic results.

20% – Essential – Administers national educational interpreters exams. Analyzes demographic and examination results to determine professional development needs for the state.

20% – Essential – Solicits professional development presenters to specifically target identified training needs. Coordinates professional development for educational interpreters across the state.

10% – Essential – Works as a liaison in the SC Department of Education and the SC School of the Deaf and the Blind to coordinate services. Provides technical assistance for school district and school district administration of IDEA, Deaf Education and the provision on educational interpreting services.


Education – Bachelor’s Degree

Work Experience –  Relevant program experience.


Education –  Master’s Degree

Work Experience – 5+ years and Fluency in American Sign Language

Certification – National Interpretor Certification


Comprehensive Job Knowledge – Comprehensive knowledge of theories and practices and ability to use in complex, difficult and/or unprecedented situations

Supervises Work of Others – Supervises work of others and may offer recommendations for hiring, termination and pay adjustments but does not have responsibility for making these decisions.

No Budget Responsibilities – No fiscal responsibility for the department’s budget.
