Sign Language Research Lab at Georgetown University

The incumbent will provide full resources for the Faculty Director and staff in a sign language research lab. The incumbent will support faculty and staff by providing ASL interpreting services, providing oversight and hiring of additional interpreters, and in coordinating and supporting the lead faculty member’s research activities in the areas of language processing, linguistic analysis, and digital documentation of sign language.
This position requires a high level of skill and accomplishment in American Sign Language (ASL) and in written and oral English in academic settings, translating and editing written materials, and administrative abilities. Will have the ability to assist in the use of digital annotation technology for sign language documentation and to coordinate a large database of digital sign language research materials; experience in digital metadata management is strongly preferred, training will be provided. Masters degree required. Superior fluency in American Sign language (native proficiency strongly preferred); superior skills translating from English to ASL and from ASL to English. Experience in sign language documentation and in gathering, organizing, archiving and maintaining metadata collections for sign language, capability to coordinate teamwork at lab and oversee services.
