NCIEC Classroom Modules

The National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers (NCIEC) has had the privilege of serving the fields of ASL/English interpreting and interpreter education since October 2005. The federal funding for the NCIEC will come to a close on September 30, 2016. Each center is working diligently up to the final day to offer our high quality training opportunities and educational resources.
The showcase of our collective efforts is our website, interpretereducation.org. As you may already know the site, we invite you to visit again with fresh eyes. Set aside an hour to go through every tab and drop-down menu. We guarantee that you will be amazed by the breadth, depth and quality of the content.
Folks interested in becoming interpreters will find a link to the Discover Interpreting; interpreting students will find information about ASL immersion and the Student & Novice Network; mentors will find a toolkit filled with resources; practitioners will find information about professional development and areas of specialization; educators will find catalogs of videos that are searchable and downloadable; and, researchers will find a variety of research reports. And, there’s more!
Our newest contribution to the site is the addition of six classroom modules that are fully developed packages on special topics in interpreting. The topics are:

  • DeafBlind Interpreting
  • Deaf Interpreter/Hearing Interpreter Teams
  • To Your Future Health-Interpreting in Health Care Settings
  • Social Justice in Interpreting
  • Vocational Rehabilitation-Faces of Deaf Consumers
  • Vocational Rehabilitation 101-History, System and Process

These modules were formerly available through a Moodle site. We have updated and migrated the content to interpretereducation.org to ease access and consolidate all our resources as we prepare for the conclusion of our grant period. At this point in time, our plan is to keep the website live after October 1 but due to a lack of funding, it will no longer be updated nor will there be any technical support. But the content you’ve come to know and use will continue to be available.
So don’t delay, visit our website today!
