Research on Student Perceptions of Fluency

Dear Interpreter Educator:
I am a doctoral student at Gallaudet University. I am conducting research which has been approved by the Gallaudet Institutional Review Board (PJID# 2723 ). This study will examine how interpreting students perceive and value language fluency in American Sign Language and in other spoken languages (typically, English). I would like to ask you to share this survey with your students. It will take about 20 minutes to complete and is anonymous. No information about specific programs will be collected. It is hoped that this study can be used to better inform interpreter educators as to how students determine the prestige or value of languages and how this prestige might impact their learning.
The link for students is: https://surveys.gallaudet.edu/surveys/?s=t7yu33o9Rq
You may copy the survey link and share it with your interpreting students. I ask you to encourage your interpreting students to participate so that we will be able to expand our understanding as educators. I thank you for your time, attention, and patience.
Kindly,
Dawn M. Wessling
